The AI-Infused Language Education: Empowering Teachers through Multilingual MOOC Training (AILEM) project has officially commenced with a successful kick-off meeting, marking the beginning of a three-year collaboration among leading institutions from Poland, Türkiye, Croatia, and Italy. The project consortium includes Pegaso Telematic University, Italy, Adam Mickiewicz University, Poznań, Poland, Josip Juraj Strossmayer University of Osijek, Croatia, Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University, Turkey, Smarted SRL, ZSI Sigid z.o.o. and the Association of LSP Teachers at Higher Education Institutions, which serves as a supporting partner.
The kick-off meeting provided an opportunity for the partners to align their vision and establish a strong foundation for the project’s implementation. The meeting began with a welcome address from the coordinating institution, setting the stage for discussions on the project’s objectives and its significance in enhancing Language for Specific Purposes (LSP) education through artificial intelligence. Each partner institution introduced their expertise and contributions to the project, emphasizing their role in the development of AI-driven tools for adaptive and tailored LSP materials.
Recognizing the crucial role of LSP courses in professional communication, AILEM is dedicated to equipping language educators with the skills necessary to integrate AI into LSP content development. By leveraging AI-driven tools, the project aims to support the creation of adaptive and tailored educational materials that meet the unique needs of different professions. Through the selection of open AI resources, the development of a methodological learning framework, and the implementation of a multilingual MOOC,
AILEM will provide educators with innovative approaches to lesson design in specialized language instruction.
A key focus of the meeting was the discussion of AILEM’s work plan, including the selection of AI open resources, the development of a methodological learning framework, and the creation of a multilingual MOOC designed to equip language educators with practical AI integration strategies. The partners also outlined the expected project results, which include positioning the EU as a leader in AI-driven teacher training, developing a secure and sustainable framework for AI in LSP education, fostering a collaborative community of practice, and producing guidelines for further application of the AILEM model.
Logistical aspects, including project timelines, communication strategies, and dissemination activities, were also addressed to ensure smooth collaboration over the next 36 months. The meeting concluded with an open discussion on upcoming milestones and responsibilities, reaffirming the consortium’s commitment to transforming LSP education through AI-driven innovations.
The expected outcomes of the project include establishing the EU as a leader in AI-driven teacher training for LSP content development. AILEM will develop a methodological framework to ensure the secure, sustainable, and effective use of AI in this domain. Additionally, the project will offer a multilingual mini-MOOC tailored for language educators, fostering a community of practice that brings together stakeholders, experts, and higher education institutions. By sharing success stories and guidelines, AILEM aims to create a model that can be replicated and expanded, contributing to the future of AI-enhanced language education.
With the successful launch of AILEM, the project is set to empower language educators by providing them with the tools and knowledge needed to create dynamic, AI-enhanced learning experiences for specialized professional contexts.
