About the Association
The Association of LSP Teachers at Higher Education Institutions was founded in 2012. Its mission is to promote and develop teaching and research on languages for specific purposes as well as to enhance the status of LSP teachers at higher education institutions in Croatia. The members of the Association are mainly LSP teachers affiliated with Croatian universities and colleges.
The Association regularly organizes conferences, workshops, teacher training, and other professional events where members and other subject specialists can exchange their ideas and experiences related to LSP teaching methodology, such as syllabus design and the development of teaching materials. Members are also welcome to present the findings of their research work in diverse LSP domains, including terminology and lexicography, translation, discourse analysis, psycholinguistics, cognitive science and other relevant areas. By supporting the professional development and lifelong learning of LSP teachers, the Association providesvarious opportunities for building networks and strengthening professional cooperation.
Given that one of its aims is to develop programs and projects that facilitate international collaboration between teachers and students, the Association continuously establishes partnerships and networks with similar professional associations in Croatia and abroad. In addition, it actively cooperates with the Ministry of Science and Education and other educational institutions in the Republic of Croatia.
The central event hosted by the Association is the international biennial conference titled “Contemporary Challenges in Teaching LSP”. Due to a growing number of international presenters who gather to share recent research insights, practices, and ideas in LSP, the conference has gained the status of one of the leading LSP professional events in this part of Europe.
The main Association’s publication is the peer-reviewed Conference Proceedings in which conference participants can publish original research and professional articles based on their contributions at the conference.
The Association is a non-profit organization whose work is governed by the Statute. The Statute is available in Croatian HERE.
