A new university textbook, Technical English for Mechatronics and Robotics 1, authored by Dr Brankica Bošnjak Terzić, has been published. Intended for students of mechatronics and robotics beginning their study of technical English, this is the first of two planned volumes in the series.
The textbook integrates linguistic and technical content, enabling students to comprehend professional texts and actively use English in a technical context. It covers topics in mechatronics and robotics, energy and renewable sources, materials and their properties, and additive manufacturing, while gradually introducing key grammatical structures. Topics include types of robots, robotics in renewable energy, bioinspired materials, materials for medical applications, and the concept of factories of the future, all presented through practical exercises and illustrative examples.
A distinctive feature of the textbook is the English–Croatian glossary of key terms and phrases, designed to help students quickly revise and effectively use newly learned vocabulary. In addition to providing a comprehensive overview of central themes, the textbook includes practical exercises aimed at developing skills in translation, comprehension of specialised texts, and argumentation in English.
Although the textbook focuses on mastering essential terminology and language structures, its broader purpose is to offer a solid foundation for deeper understanding and effective use of technical English, serving as a valuable reference throughout the entire course of study in mechatronics and robotics.
