The second coursebook in a two-book series, designed for students of mechanical engineering, comprises four units, Engineering Materials, Production Engineering, Mechatronics and Robotics and Industrial Engineering and Management. Each unit includes authentic and up-to-date texts that are accompanied by a variety of tasks ranging from exercises to develop the skills of reading and comprehension of technical texts as well as the skills of speaking and writing. These language skills will enable students to become competent speakers of the English language both during their studies and in their future professional life. Therefore, a special emphasis is placed on building and expanding students’ technical vocabulary and developing the skills of argumentation, reporting and presenting as well as the skills of critical thinking and problem solving. The coursebook has also a valuable grammar reference section (e.g. multi-word terms and the use of participles in technical English), a skills bank which covers topics relevant to the area of engineering (writing an academic summary, a CV and a cover letter as well as presenting), an appendix with lists of typical prefixes and suffixes used in technical English, technical collocations and abbreviations as well as a comprehensive word list.
