Snježana Husinec, PhD, Faculty of Law, University of Zagreb
In this monograph the author reconstructs the creation and historical development of the Croatian legal terminology in the period between 1948 and 1918 with special reference to the development of the terminology of the Croatian judiciary and the German lexical elements that it contains.
The book presents the paths and methods of the creation of the basis for the Croatian legal terminology in the mid-19th century, then the 19th century jurists’ attitudes towards the new terminology as well as their suggestions and initiatives for the improvement and completion of the existing terminology. Next, it discusses the usage and systematization of the authentic legal terminology of the Croatian judiciary in the mention period. In order to determine which sources the judiciary took its terminology from, the similarities and differences between the court terminology, the terminology used in legislative texts, and the first German-Croatian dictionary of legal and political terms are analysed. The type and intensity of the German influence on the court terminology are described in the final part of the book.
